Land Use Committee
Virginia Mason, Chairman
Objectives are to:
study land use issues such
as residential development, agriculture, and impervious surfaces, and to determine the effects
of land uses on the quality and quantity of the Pomperaug River's surface water, ground water,
and aquatic habitat.
provide the Coalition with
GIS mapping and spatial analysis that can be used to further its goals
work with the watershed
towns and with other organizations on the preservation of land identified as having
ecological, aesthetic or historic importance
study the watershed towns'
land use regulations and to determine ways in which they can be improved to promote the health
of the watershed
provide forums for towns
and other organizations on land use issues and to provide education on the impact of land uses
promote sound, up-to-date,
and comprehensive land use policies in the watershed towns
Water Quality Committee
Dr. Mark Schocken, Chairman
Objective is to:
Work with representatives from the watershed towns, the
Connecticut DEP and United States Geological Survey (USGS) to develop a cost
effective surface and groundwater monitoring protocol that will help alert the
Coalition to septic system failures, chemical spills, and other contamination in
the river and aquifer. This information will available to the public upon
request.
