Watershed Field Tour
In September 2011, PRWC invited town employees and volunteer municipal commissioners on a tour of the Pomperaug Watershed. Divided over two days, the tour stopped at sites of interest and concern in relation to the overall health of the river system. Some of the sites we chose are scientific research locations; some have damage resulting from the recent floods; and some are representative of common impairments observed throughout the watershed or of the unique characteristics of the watershed. The tour was a great exchange between guides and participants. There was discussion of river dynamics, floodplain management, instream habitat, pharmaceuticals research, drinking water distribution, riparian buffer management, fish passage, and much more.
