Hike to view the various Charcoal Hearths at Bent of the River Audubon Center. This hike will be 3 miles long over rolling terrain. Please wear comfortable shoes. Suitable for children 10 and over. Bring water and snacks.

About the Event

The remains of at least 23 old charcoal hearths have recently been located on the Bent of the River preserve.  Each hearth has small remnants of 100 – 150-year-old charcoal.   Join Peter and Barbara Rzasa on a hike along the trails at the Bent of the River as they point out several old hearths and discuss the production of charcoal.

This hike will be 3 miles long over rolling terrain. Please wear comfortable shoes. Suitable for children 10 and over. Bring water and snacks. Meet your hosts, Peter and Barbara Rzasa in the front parking lot before 10:00.
