Connecticut'S Largest Earth Day Celebration To Happen May 4Th, 2019 In Woodbury

January 9, 2019

On Saturday May 4th over 7,000 guests are expected to visit Hollow Park in Woodbury to help celebrate Woodbury Earth Day.  This is the largest Earth Day celebration in Connecticut, and is in its 25th year.

For the fourth year, this free event is under the direction of the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition (PRWC), and sponsored in part by New Morning Market, Woodbury Earth Day's original founders. The event will take place on the field at Hollow Park from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Vendors, exhibitors, sponsors and volunteers are being sought.  This event is not-for-profit, and proceeds collected will benefit PRWC, a Woodbury-based environmental non-profit dedicated to protecting and restoring local water resources. Event proceeds will support PRWC’s stream monitoring program and implementation of the recently adopted Watershed Based Plan.

The Woodbury Earth Day Committee is now seeking the participation of exhibitors who share in the vision of conserving natural resources and supporting a sustainable lifestyle. Those interested in a 10' x 10' booth space are asked to visit www.woodburyearthday.org to apply.

Non-profit booth space is $50, for-profit booth space is $125, and food concessions space is $250. The early-bird deadline for submissions is February 15, 2019.  Vendors applying after that will be charged a late fee.  Applications will be accepted until April 1 or until capacity is reached.

On May 4, Woodbury Earth Day will feature live music, food trucks, an artisan market, a kids’ activity tent, and activities, exhibits, and giveaways on household sustainability, environmental conservation, holistic wellness and so much more!  The event is free to attend, and free parking will be available offsite with a free shuttle service. A $5 per car parking fee will be charged to guests wishing to park onsite. Handi-cap parking is free onsite.

As most people hunker down for winter, the Woodbury Earth Day steering committee is ramping up their planning efforts for this fun-filled celebration.  “As we strive to plan an event that promotes sustainable living, holistic wellness, and environmental conservation, what really keeps our team of volunteers going is seeing families and neighbors reconnect at Earth Day each spring. It is extremely gratifying to see the community come together to celebrate our precious natural resources after several long, cold months,” said Carol Haskins, PRWC Outreach Director and Chair of Woodbury Earth Day.

Those interested in sponsoring the event can email earthday@pomperaug.org for more information.

Anyone seeking additional information is encouraged to visit www.woodburyearthday.org or www.facebook.com/woodburyearthday, where they may also sign up to receive emails about the event.
