Our Strategic Plan

Communities need clean water to be vibrant, healthy, and sustainable. Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition (PRWC) has served a vital role in connecting the community to its watershed, a precious and irreplaceable source for drinking water, diverse habitats, and recreational opportunities.

We have created a working partnership of local governments, businesses, scientists, fellow environmental organizations, and individuals who collaborate with regional, state, and federal agencies. Together, we work to address the pressures of increasing land development, emerging contaminants, and increasing occurrences of floods and drought. As our organization approached its 25th anniversary, we felt it was important to take time to reflect on our progress and to prioritize operational excellence for sustained future impact.

In June 2024, we embarked on a rigorous path to create a strategic plan that will chart an ambitious and thoughtful course for the future of our organization. This journey brought us together with community members, partners, and stakeholders who care deeply about the health and sustainability of our shared water resources. Through these conversations, we reaffirmed that PRWC serves as a trusted voice, providing science-based expertise and leadership to protect and advocate for rivers and drinking water in the watershed and the communities they sustain.

As we look ahead, we are guided by a vision for a resilient and thriving watershed, an updated mission centered on protection, restoration, and community engagement embodying PRWC’s commitment to collaboration and innovation.

Our strategic plan sets a bold path forward: expanding our impact through education and advocacy, advancing innovative solutions to emerging environmental challenges, and strengthening partnerships that amplify our collective efforts.

Safeguarding water in our community is a shared responsibility, and we invite you to join us in this vital work. Together, we can ensure that these invaluable resources remain vibrant for generations to come.
