Streamside Buffer Planting at Cedarland Park

Streamside Buffer

The Cedarland Park Buffer Restoration Project continues! The town of Southbury has recently approved our plans to continue to restore the riverbank in Cedarland Park. Last year, we replaced the invasive plants along Spring Brook with indigenous species. In addition to restoring the natural ecosystem, native buffers help absorb energy from storms. This reduces the severity of flooding and erosion of the riverbank. In the upcoming weeks, we are looking to extend our native buffer along the Pomperaug River. Help us be “River Smart” and come lend us a hand in planting and weeding!

Join us for one or more of these volunteer times**:

Saturday July 18: 9 AM – 3 PM

Saturday July 25: 9 AM – 3 PM

If you can, please bring your own work gloves, a hand tool of choice, and a water bottle. We will provide snacks, water, sunscreen, bug spray, and hand tools to share.

Volunteers should park at Union Square at the intersection of Main Street South and Peter Road. Then, walk to Cedarland Park on River Trail (just a short walk behind Union Savings Bank and Walgreens). Look for signs to guide you there.

For more information or if you and a group would like to assist with this project, contact us at outreach@pomperaug.org or call 203-263-0076. **NOTE: Volunteers will also be needed to help water the new plants as well as continue monitoring and removing weeds that resurface.
