The Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition is proudly accepting applications from highly motivated undergraduate students pursuing environmental careers for its Dr. Marc J. Taylor Internship position.
This prestigious environmental student internship was established in 2013 in memory of PRWC’s co-founder, Dr. Taylor (1937-2012). Dr. Taylor was a medical doctor who, in his retirement, turned his keen intellect and calm demeanor toward fostering coalition-based solutions to benefit the local environment with a particular focus on protecting the Pomperaug River and Aquifer. In addition to stewarding environmental resources at the local, state, and national level, Dr. Taylor was also particularly eager to foster the same passion in those preparing to be the stewards of the future.
If you are an undergraduate student pursuing an environmental career, you may consider applying for this 10-week, full-time, paid internship position*. While internship activities vary from year to year, interns will engage in projects and programs that support PRWC’s work to protect water resources in the communities that are directly affected by the quantity and quality of water in the Pomperaug River and Aquifer as it relates to local drinking water supplies. PRWC focuses in three main areas - scientific research, education, and practical support through advocacy and advice - to make sure that the people who depend on this water supply understand the resource and take appropriate actions to preserve and protect it.
The ideal candidate will enjoy performing a mix of outdoor field work and office assignments, be comfortable interacting with residents of all ages, and possess strong written skills, strong organizational skills and a desire to learn on the job. Candidates should also be able to work independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with Excel, GPS and GIS, Adobe Creative Suite technologies will be considered a plus.
