Welcome the Crew

Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition welcomes its first Youth Conservation Corps. The crew (pictured L to R) consists of Dana Dessereaux of Woodbury as Crew Leader, Carol Haskins PRWC Outreach Director, Tim Tscheppe and Mathes Payne of Watertown, Kayla Kim of Southbury, Molly Galusha of Middlebury, and Josephine Purdy of Bridgewater as Assistant Crew Leader/PRWC Intern. Tim and Mathes attend the Gunnery School in Washington, Molly attends Westover School in Middlebury, and Kayla is a recent graduate of Taft School in Watertown.

Over the course of six weeks, the crew will implement conservation projects throughout the watershed. The crew began their first week continuing the ongoing invasive plant removal at Cedarland Park in Southbury. The following weeks will include projects such as stream buffer maintenance along the Pomperaug River at Hollow Park in Woodbury, rain garden maintenance at Manville Kettle in Woodbury, storm drain marking throughout the watershed, and invasive plant removal at Swendsen Farm in Bethlehem.

The program is funded by a generous grant from the Connecticut Community Foundation.
