Public Notice of Proposed Stream Flow Classifications for the Housatonic, Hudson and Southwest Coast

The Public Comment Period on the proposed Stream Flow Classifications for the Housatonic, Hudson and Southwest Coastal River Basins, which includes the Pomperaug Watershed, is open until September 21. Public Information Sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, July 24, 2018 (see details below). The Stream Flow Classifications are an important component in the endeavor to update standards for maintaining minimum flows in rivers and streams to balance river and stream ecology, wildlife and recreation while providing for public health, flood control, industry, public utilities, water supply, public safety, agriculture and other lawful uses of water. This work is in response to Public Act 05-142 (CGS Section 26-141a and b) which requires the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to work with the Department of Public Health and stakeholders to determine flow management goals and to update applicable flow standards. PRWC is an active participant in the review process and will submit comments on the stream flow classifications within the Pomperaug River Basin. Please know that you may contact us for information and you may visit the CT DEEP site for a closer review of the proposed classifications.
