A Letter From Sara Lynn Leavenworth, PRWC Board Member

Leavenworth Family

To say that the recent global pandemic has inserted disruption and uncertainty into our lives is an understatement. Yet, many people are finding solace in creating new routines, connecting with people in their local communities and in some cases, continuing to support organizations near and dear to their hearts.

Twenty years ago, my father Dick Leavenworth, a lifetime resident of Woodbury, along with his good friends Dr. Marc Taylor and Larry Pond, co-founded The Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition (PRWC) to protect and preserve local water sources which were being directly impacted by increased land development. For twenty years, staff and volunteers of PRWC have worked tirelessly to ensure the health of the Pomperaug River and the many rivers and streams which flow into it.

Each time you drink a glass of water or wash your hands, think about our most valuable natural resource—CLEAN WATER.

I am personally grateful for the work that my father and others started and I am honored to carry on his legacy as a Board Member of PRWC. This critically important work, however, cannot be done without you. On April 21 and April 22, PRWC is one of the many local non-profits participating in Give Local Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills— a 36-hour online giving event that unites donors, businesses, and organizations in giving back to our local communities.

I will be giving in memory of my father to commemorate the Twentieth Birthday of PRWC’s founding and to recognize the importance of donating to a local organization that uses science based research, education and outreach for the well-being of citizens in our communities. I sincerely hope you will join me in supporting PRWC’s fundamental and yet, extremely vital purpose.

With gratitude,

Sara Lynn Leavenworth
