A Letter From Carol Haskins on Woodbury Earth Day

Friends,

On Saturday May 2, Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition (PRWC) would have hosted the annual Woodbury Earth Day Festival, which is usually the largest Earth Day celebration in Connecticut. PRWC, New Morning Market (festival founder), Town of Woodbury, exhibitors, sponsors and volunteers were looking forward to gathering with thousands of our friends and neighbors in a celebration of natural resources.

Instead, this year PRWC invited the community to join in spirit and online to celebrate our blue planet on Earth Day and all year long. There are actions we can all take - picking up trash as you walk, buying produce from your local farm, planting a tree or pollinator-friendly flowers, repairing or repurposing something, or drinking the water that flows from your tap. We can all contribute to a cleaner environment and sustainable future.

Festival proceeds support PRWC’s protection and restoration of the rivers and aquifers that provide clean drinking water, a home to wildlife, and miles of opportunities for recreation and enjoyment. PRWC thanks its sponsors including Eversource for their continued support in light of the event cancellation. “We may not be able to celebrate the Woodbury Earth Day Festival because of the pandemic, but the hard work of the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition continues,” said Eversource Community Relations Specialist Hedy Ayers. “In challenging times like these, local nonprofits need our support now more than ever. We’re happy to contribute to their efforts to make our communities a greener place.”
