Looking Ahead: New Strategic Plan Sets Bold Path Forward

Since 1999, Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition (PRWC) has been a trusted voice, providing science-based expertise and leadership to protect and advocate for rivers and drinking water in the watershed and the communities they sustain. Our story began when a group of concerned local residents, including Dr. Marc J. Taylor, Larry Pond, and Dick Leavenworth, came together to protect the Pomperaug River Watershed. They saw growing threats from development and the risk of water being taken out of the watershed. They were worried about how these activities would impact our water quality and wondered if there would be enough water to support future needs. So, they formed a coalition, bringing together people of all walks of life who cared about protecting this vital resource.

Over 25 years later, PRWC continues as a coalition in more than just name, bringing together town leaders, residents, landowners, students, businesses, and community partners to care for our shared water resources. We are proud to continue our work with the support of our municipal leaders, local and regional partners, generous sponsors and donors, and dedicated volunteers.

As we reach this 25th anniversary milestone, we are looking ahead. We’re excited to share our new strategic plan, which outlines a bold vision for a healthy and thriving watershed. This plan underscores our commitment to protect, sustain, and restore the water resources of the Pomperaug Watershed and sets a bold path forward: expanding our impact through education and advocacy, advancing innovative solutions to emerging environmental challenges, and strengthening partnerships that amplify our collective efforts.
