Tim Palmer - Award Winning Environmental Author and Photographer Twilight of the Hemlocks and Beeche
The Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition and the Southbury Land Trust are co-hosting a presentation by award winning environmental author and photographer, Tim Palmer. Tim’s recently published book, Twilight of the Hemlocks and Beeches and this program celebrates the stunning beauty of our hemlock and beech forests throughout the East. Attendees will be treated to a stunning visual presentation and explanation about the importance of these trees and the invasions of exotic insects and pathogens that are tragically decimating these foundational species of the eastern forests. There will be a discussion on the promising and courageous work that scientists and managers are undertaking to correct the problems and restore these extraordinary woodlands.

Tim is the award-winning author of 26 books about rivers, conservation, and adventure travel. He is a photographer of America's natural landscapes and a dynamic public speaker with inspiring slide shows about a range of environmental topics. For over 40 years, Tim's writing and photography work has braided together his love of rivers and nature with his drive for creative expression and his deep commitment to conservation. Throughout his career, Tim has also been involved in river conservation. He is author of dozens of magazine articles and river studies and brochures for conservation campaigns, including publications for the successful effort to designate the Kings River in the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System and to protect the South Yuba River in the California State Scenic Rivers System. He also authored the Western Rivers Conservancy's "Great Rivers of the West" report, a survey of the natural qualities of rivers in eleven Western states.
Tim has also served on the board of the national river advocacy group American Rivers and on the board of the national river organizing group River Network. He is currently an Associate at the Pennsylvania State University's Riparia Center and a Visiting Scholar at Portland State University.
In their respective roles of local environmental protection advocates, the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition and the Southbury Land Trust are pleased once again to be collaborating on another important community outreach program. The presentation will be given at the Southbury Library on October 2 from 6:30 to 8:30pm and is free of charge.
