Woodbury Celebrates Earth Day in the Biggest Way

Woodbury Celebrates Earth Day in the Biggest Way

The 25th annual Woodbury Earth Day Festival will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 11 AM to 4 PM at Hollow Park in beautiful Woodbury. As the largest Earth Day celebration in Connecticut, featuring more than a hundred vendors and exhibitors, you won’t want to miss this fun celebration with earth-friendly activities for the entire family! If you go, be sure to bring an appetite. With more than a dozen food trucks participating, Hollow Park will turn into a foodie paradise. The food selection will include local food truck favorites like Woodbury’s own El Camion and Big Green Egg & Hamburgers, as well as trucks from around the state including G-Monkey, Pizza to the People, Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tales, Sonny’s Grinders, Tipsy Cones, and more! As the food court offers up a wide range of flavors, they collectively offer up vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and organic options and feature locally sourced ingredients. “As a local, family event, we try to have something for everyone. The food court is a reflection of that. So is the line-up of musical acts on the Main Stage,” says Carol Haskins, Woodbury Earth Day chair. The acts include nationally touring artists including Mattson Rose and David Powers, as well as local favorites like Sweetcake Mountain. In addition to the great food and music, Woodbury Earth Day will feature an artisan market, a kids’ activity tent, along with activities, exhibits, and giveaways on household sustainability, environmental conservation, holistic wellness and so much more! John Pittari, owner of New Morning Market and original founder of Woodbury Earth Day and steering committee member, said, “We strived to create an event that promotes sustainable living, holistic wellness, environmental conservation, local farmers and growers, artisans, and, perhaps most importantly, community.” Haskins added, “It’s the coming together of the community that really keeps us going each year. It is extremely gratifying to see families and neighbors celebrate our precious natural resources each spring after being hunkered down for several long, cold months.” The event is free to attend, and free offsite parking will be available with a complementary shuttle service. A $5 per car parking fee will be charged to guests wishing to park onsite. Handicapped parking is free onsite. Event proceeds will benefit Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition (PRWC), a Woodbury-based environmental non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of local water resources. Woodbury Earth Day is presented under the leadership of PRWC with support from a dedicated team of community volunteers, New Morning Market, and the Town of Woodbury. Event sponsors include Heritage Village Water Company; New Morning Market; O&G Industries; Eversource; Aquarion Water Company; Bennett Sullivan Associates; Giuliano Richardson and Safara LLC; Milone and MacBroom, Inc; Secor, Cassidy & McPartland, P.C.; Riverview Cinema 8; Bye-Bye Mattress; Civil 1; Daffodil Hill Growers; Gager, Bower & Scalzo LLP; Hine Bros; WHOLE Bed; Class Cycles; L.L. Bean; Woodbury Farm Market; USA Waste and Recycling. Additional volunteers are needed on May 4th for Woodbury Earth Day. It takes many hands to make this such a great event each year. Information including a full list of vendors and exhibitors along with a schedule of activities and volunteer needs is available online at www.woodburyearthday.org.
